today i will be ranking my top 10 scariest horror films, everybody just choses cliche answers like the exorcist, the shining, halloween but those films arent scary anymore they were scary at the time they came out but they arent scary by todays standards. here are the films in my opinion that are the scariest
the conjuring
the conjuring scared me so much when i first saw it, it has brilliant well timed jump scares, and james wan really knows how to make terrifying scenes, he really knows how to craft scary scenes that don't seem scary on paper but he makes them scary in the movie, like the hand clapping scenes send chills down my spine every time i even think about them. james want is a horror legend, he can make anything scary. i was scared for months after seeing this movie and i couldnt sleep for a while, good job james wan i am proud of you
2. sinister
sinister has my favorite jumpscares of all time that are so memorable every time i look out my window at night and see the bushes outside i just think of the moment from that movie, and bughuul is one of the scariest mfs ever.
4 . smile
smile has some great creepy scenes and has a terrifying and memorable ending that makes the movie even scarier it has some of the scariest scenes like the therapist scene and the scene after she gets a glass of water from the fridge i just love how the camera slowly moves to the other side of the room and the person is just creepily staring at her
5. hereditary
hereditary is a terrifying movie it isnt cliche like the other movies on my list, ari aster really knows how true horror works, he can craft some of the most scary scenes and some of the most shocking scenes. it has a terrifying and memorable ending and the nut allergy scene is truly terrifying.
6. midsommar
its impressive that ari aster managed to get on this list twice that just proves how talented this man is. he made a movie completely in the daylight that still managed to be scary, this is the only film on this list that has nearly all of the scares in super bright places. it has some truly memorable scenes, and amazing performances and a great main character that makes the scenes more memorable.
6. the ring
the ring is surprisingly scary for a pg 13 horror film and it has the scariest scene of all time that the whole movie builds up to and it lives up to my expectations with some great CGI. and it doesn't have a lot of scares but the ones that it has are great, this movie really knows how to build dread and fear and has a true sense of terror.
7. the conjuring 2
The Conjuring 2 is suprisingly scary for a sequel, sure the scares are mostly jumpscares but there amazing jumpscares, i wish it had scary things that came over and over again like the hands in the first one but the scares are so good in this movie it barely even matters.
8. Host
host is a scare factory there are so many amazing terrifying scenes. and i know theres a movie called THE host but i am talking about a movie called host no the just one word
9. the babadook
the babadook is suprisingly scary, it made me scared the night after i watched it and is one of the only movies to do that. i love how the less you see the babadook the more scary he is. and the knocking is so scary. and i love the movies focus on the protagonist more than the antagonist that makes me care about them and makes the scarier moments more scary. and i love how the movie isnt cliche and relies on true horror which is a thing not a lot of directors understand anymore now its just about how many jumpscares can you fit into a movie
10. paranormal activity
paranormal activity is terrifying it makes you so scared to go to bed and the nighttime scenes are terrifying and truly memorable, it made it so i couldnt sleep for a while.
